About This Medicine
Product description & overview
M Dapa M 5mg/500mg Tablet is a fixed-dose combination medication containing Dapagliflozin 5mg and Metformin 500mg, indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Dapagliflozin is a selective sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that reduces renal glucose reabsorption, promoting urinary glucose excretion and thereby lowering blood glucose levels. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily decreases hepatic glucose production and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity, contributing to enhanced glycemic control. The combination of these two agents offers complementary mechanisms of action, resulting in improved efficacy in lowering HbA1c compared to monotherapy. M Dapa M 5mg/500mg is prescribed as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults inadequately controlled on either agent alone or on other antidiabetic medications. It is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment, metabolic acidosis, or known hypersensitivity to its components. Common adverse effects include urinary tract infections, genital mycotic infections, gastrointestinal disturbances, and risk of lactic acidosis associated with Metformin. Regular monitoring of renal function and glycemic parameters is recommended during therapy. This combination therapy should be used under medical supervision to optimize diabetes management and minimize potential risks.
