Lumerax Dry Syrup is a fixed-dose combination antimalarial formulation containing Arteether 20mg and Lumefantrine 120mg per 5ml. It is indicated for the treatment of uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria. Arteether, a semi-synthetic derivative of artemisinin, acts rapidly by generating reactive oxygen species that damage the parasite’s proteins and membranes, leading to swift reduction of parasitemia. Lumefantrine, a longer-acting antimalarial, inhibits heme polymerization within the parasite, thereby preventing detoxification of free heme and resulting in parasite death. The combination ensures rapid parasite clearance and reduces the risk of resistance development. Lumerax Dry Syrup is particularly suitable for pediatric patients and those unable to swallow tablets, providing ease of administration with accurate dosing. The medication should be administered as per recommended dosing schedules, typically over three days, with doses taken alongside fatty meals to enhance absorption. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, dizziness, and occasional allergic reactions. Use with caution in patients with known hypersensitivity to artemisinin derivatives or lumefantrine and in those with cardiac conduction abnormalities.
