About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Lorpotem AM Tablet is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Amlodipine 5 mg and Metoprolol Succinate 47.5 mg, indicated for the management of hypertension and angina pectoris. Amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, acts by inhibiting calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to vasodilation and reduced peripheral vascular resistance. Metoprolol Succinate, a selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker, decreases heart rate, myocardial contractility, and cardiac output, thereby lowering blood pressure and reducing myocardial oxygen demand. The synergistic effect of these agents provides effective blood pressure control and symptomatic relief in patients with stable angina. Lorpotem AM is typically administered once daily, ensuring sustained therapeutic plasma concentrations. It is contraindicated in patients with severe bradycardia, heart block greater than first degree without a pacemaker, cardiogenic shock, and decompensated heart failure. Caution is advised in patients with hepatic impairment, diabetes mellitus, and respiratory disorders. Common adverse effects include dizziness, fatigue, hypotension, and peripheral edema. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, heart rate, and cardiac function is recommended during therapy. Lorpotem AM should be used under medical supervision to optimize cardiovascular outcomes and minimize potential risks.
