About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Lofatin Cream contains Luliconazole 1% w/w, an imidazole antifungal agent indicated for the topical treatment of superficial fungal infections such as dermatophytosis, candidiasis, and pityriasis versicolor. Luliconazole exerts its antifungal effect by inhibiting the enzyme lanosterol 14α-demethylase, a critical component in the biosynthesis of ergosterol, an essential sterol in fungal cell membranes. Disruption of ergosterol synthesis compromises fungal cell membrane integrity, leading to increased permeability and ultimately fungal cell death. Lofatin Cream is effective against a broad spectrum of dermatophytes including Trichophyton species, as well as yeasts such as Candida albicans and Malassezia furfur. The cream formulation allows for convenient topical application, providing localized antifungal activity with minimal systemic absorption. It is typically applied once daily to the affected area for a duration determined by the severity and type of infection, usually ranging from one to four weeks. Lofatin Cream is generally well tolerated; adverse effects are infrequent and may include mild local irritation, burning, or erythema at the application site. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to luliconazole or any component of the formulation. Proper adherence to the prescribed regimen is essential to achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes and prevent recurrence.
