About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Lipicard Capsule contains Fenofibrate 200 mg, a lipid-modifying agent primarily indicated for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia. Fenofibrate belongs to the fibrate class of medications and acts by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα), which leads to increased lipolysis and elimination of triglyceride-rich particles from plasma. This results in significant reductions in serum triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C), while often increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels. Lipicard Capsule is prescribed as an adjunct to diet and lifestyle modifications in patients with primary hyperlipidemia or mixed dyslipidemia who have not achieved adequate lipid control through non-pharmacological measures alone. It may also be used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with elevated lipid levels. The medication should be taken orally, usually once daily with food to enhance absorption. Common side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, elevated liver enzymes, and muscle-related symptoms; therefore, periodic monitoring of liver function tests and creatine kinase is recommended during therapy. Lipicard Capsule is contraindicated in patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment, gallbladder disease, or known hypersensitivity to fenofibrate.
