Lipicard-AV Tablet is a combination lipid-lowering agent containing Atorvastatin 10mg and Fenofibrate 160mg, indicated for the management of mixed dyslipidemia and hypertriglyceridemia. Atorvastatin, a selective HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, reduces cholesterol synthesis in the liver, leading to decreased levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and total cholesterol, while moderately increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Fenofibrate, a fibric acid derivative, primarily lowers triglyceride levels by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα), enhancing lipolysis and elimination of triglyceride-rich particles. The combination therapy is particularly beneficial in patients with persistent elevated triglycerides and LDL-C despite monotherapy, reducing the risk of cardiovascular events. Lipicard-AV is administered orally, typically once daily, with dosage adjustments based on lipid profile response and tolerability. Caution is advised in patients with hepatic or renal impairment, and regular monitoring of liver function tests, renal parameters, and creatine kinase levels is recommended to detect potential adverse effects such as hepatotoxicity or myopathy.
