Nepafenac is a prodrug that penetrates the cornea and is converted by ocular tissue hydrolases into amfenac, an active inhibitor of cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2). By inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, Lifenepa effectively reduces inflammation, pain, and photophobia following intraocular procedures. This ophthalmic suspension is typically administered as one drop in the affected eye(s) three times daily, starting one day prior to surgery and continuing for up to two weeks postoperatively, or as directed by a healthcare professional.
