Spironolactone is a potassium-sparing diuretic that acts as an aldosterone antagonist, promoting sodium and water excretion while conserving potassium, thereby reducing fluid overload and preventing hypokalemia. Torasemide is a loop diuretic that inhibits sodium and chloride reabsorption in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, leading to potent diuresis and effective reduction of extracellular fluid volume. The combination provides a synergistic effect, enhancing diuretic efficacy while minimizing electrolyte imbalances commonly seen with loop diuretics alone.
