Propranolol exerts its therapeutic effects by competitively blocking beta-1 and beta-2 adrenergic receptors, leading to a decrease in heart rate, myocardial contractility, and cardiac output, thereby reducing blood pressure and myocardial oxygen demand. Inderal 40 is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, angina pectoris, cardiac arrhythmias, and for the prevention of myocardial infarction. Additionally, it is utilized in the management of essential tremor, migraine prophylaxis, and certain types of anxiety disorders. The drug is absorbed well orally, with peak plasma concentrations occurring within 1 to 4 hours.
