About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Ifin 250mg Tablet contains Terbinafine, an antifungal agent used primarily for the treatment of various fungal infections. Terbinafine belongs to the allylamine class and acts by inhibiting the enzyme squalene epoxidase, which is essential in the biosynthesis of ergosterol, a key component of fungal cell membranes. This disruption leads to increased membrane permeability and ultimately fungal cell death. Ifin 250mg is indicated for the management of dermatophytosis, including tinea pedis (athlete’s foot), tinea corporis (ringworm), tinea cruris (jock itch), and onychomycosis (fungal nail infections) caused by susceptible strains of dermatophytes. The tablet is administered orally, with dosage and duration dependent on the type and severity of the infection. Commonly, a course ranges from 2 to 6 weeks for skin infections and up to 12 weeks for nail infections. Patients should be advised to complete the full prescribed course to prevent recurrence and resistance. Terbinafine is generally well-tolerated; however, potential adverse effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, rash, and, rarely, hepatotoxicity. Liver function monitoring is recommended during prolonged therapy. Ifin 250mg should be used cautiously in patients with hepatic or renal impairment and is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to terbinafine or any tablet excipients.
