Halosyn S Ointment is a topical formulation containing Halobetasol 0.05% w/w, a potent corticosteroid, combined with Salicylic Acid 3% w/w, a keratolytic agent. This combination is indicated for the treatment of various inflammatory and hyperkeratotic skin disorders such as psoriasis, eczema, and dermatitis. Halobetasol exerts strong anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects by inhibiting multiple inflammatory cytokines and mediators, thereby reducing redness, swelling, and itching. Salicylic Acid facilitates the removal of scales and promotes desquamation by softening and loosening the stratum corneum, enhancing the penetration and efficacy of the corticosteroid. Halosyn S Ointment is applied topically to the affected area once or twice daily, as directed by a healthcare professional, and should be used for the shortest duration necessary to minimize potential adverse effects. Caution is advised in patients with hypersensitivity to any component, and it should be avoided on infected or broken skin. Prolonged use may lead to skin thinning, hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression, or other corticosteroid-related side effects. It is contraindicated in viral, fungal, or bacterial skin infections unless appropriate antimicrobial therapy is concurrently administered.
