Glysartan CT 40 Tablet is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Telmisartan 40 mg and Chlorthalidone 12.5 mg. Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively inhibits the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, thereby reducing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, leading to lowered blood pressure. Chlorthalidone is a thiazide-like diuretic that promotes sodium and water excretion by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubules of the kidneys, contributing to decreased plasma volume and peripheral resistance. The synergistic action of these two agents effectively manages hypertension, reducing the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke and myocardial infarction. Glysartan CT 40 is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension, particularly in patients who require combination therapy to achieve optimal blood pressure control. It may also be beneficial in patients with salt-sensitive hypertension or those with concomitant volume overload. The combination is generally well tolerated; however, monitoring of electrolyte levels, renal function, and blood pressure is recommended during therapy. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to either component, anuria, and severe renal impairment.
