Glynase-MF Tablet is a combination oral hypoglycemic agent containing Glipizide 5mg and Metformin 500mg, indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in patients inadequately controlled by diet and exercise alone. Glipizide, a sulfonylurea, stimulates pancreatic beta cells to increase insulin secretion, thereby reducing blood glucose levels. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues, contributing to enhanced glycemic control. The synergistic action of these two agents provides effective management of hyperglycemia by targeting multiple pathophysiological defects in type 2 diabetes. Glynase-MF is recommended as adjunctive therapy to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults. It should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment, hepatic dysfunction, or conditions predisposing to hypoxia, as these may increase the risk of lactic acidosis associated with Metformin. Common adverse effects include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, as well as hypoglycemia due to Glipizide. Regular monitoring of blood glucose and renal function is advised during therapy. Glynase-MF should be prescribed and used under medical supervision, with dose adjustments tailored to individual patient response and tolerability.
