About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Gluxida 5 Tablet contains Dapagliflozin 5 mg, a selective sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. By inhibiting SGLT2 in the proximal renal tubules, Dapagliflozin reduces glucose reabsorption and increases urinary glucose excretion, thereby lowering plasma glucose levels. Gluxida 5 is prescribed as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes, either as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents. Clinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in reducing HbA1c levels, promoting weight loss, and lowering blood pressure, contributing to overall cardiovascular and renal benefits. The medication is administered orally, typically once daily, with or without food. Common adverse effects include urinary tract infections, genital mycotic infections, and increased urination. Caution is advised in patients with renal impairment, as efficacy diminishes with declining kidney function. Gluxida 5 is contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, and severe renal impairment. Regular monitoring of renal function and blood glucose levels is recommended during therapy. Patients should be advised to maintain adequate hydration and report any symptoms of urinary tract infections or ketoacidosis promptly.
