Gluconorm PG 1 Tablet PR is a combination oral hypoglycemic agent containing Glimepiride 1mg, Metformin 500mg, and Pioglitazone 15mg, indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. This formulation leverages the complementary mechanisms of action of its components to achieve optimal glycemic control. Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea, stimulates pancreatic beta-cell insulin secretion, thereby reducing blood glucose levels. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily decreases hepatic glucose production and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity, contributing to enhanced glucose uptake by muscle tissues. Pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione, acts as an insulin sensitizer by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ), improving insulin sensitivity in adipose tissue, muscle, and the liver. The combination is particularly beneficial for patients inadequately controlled on monotherapy or dual therapy, offering improved efficacy through multiple pathways.
