Glibenclamide, a sulfonylurea class drug, stimulates pancreatic beta cells to increase insulin secretion, thereby reducing blood glucose levels. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily acts by decreasing hepatic glucose production and improving peripheral insulin sensitivity, enhancing glucose uptake by muscle tissues. The synergistic action of these two agents helps achieve better glycemic control in patients inadequately controlled by diet and exercise alone or monotherapy.
