Gestrim-AM Tablet is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Telmisartan 40 mg and Amlodipine 5 mg, designed for the management of essential hypertension. Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), selectively inhibits the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, thereby reducing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, which leads to decreased blood pressure. Amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, inhibits calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, promoting vasodilation and reducing peripheral vascular resistance. The synergistic action of these agents provides enhanced blood pressure control compared to monotherapy, improving cardiovascular outcomes and reducing the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and heart failure. Gestrim-AM is indicated for patients inadequately controlled on monotherapy or those requiring multiple agents for optimal blood pressure management. It is generally well tolerated; however, common adverse effects may include dizziness, peripheral edema, headache, and fatigue. Caution is advised in patients with severe hepatic or renal impairment, and it is contraindicated during pregnancy. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, renal function, and electrolytes is recommended during therapy.
