Tamsulosin selectively blocks alpha-1 receptors in the smooth muscle of the prostate and bladder neck, leading to relaxation of these muscles and improvement in urine flow, thereby alleviating symptoms such as urinary hesitancy, weak stream, and incomplete bladder emptying. The prolonged-release formulation ensures a steady plasma concentration, enhancing therapeutic efficacy and minimizing fluctuations that could contribute to adverse effects. Geristart Tablet PR is administered orally, typically once daily, preferably after the same meal each day to optimize absorption and reduce gastrointestinal discomfort. It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to tamsulosin or any component of the formulation.
