Geneglim-M2 Tablet ER is a combination oral antidiabetic medication containing Glimepiride 2mg and Metformin 500mg in an extended-release formulation. It is indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in patients whose blood glucose levels are not adequately controlled by diet and exercise alone. Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea class agent, stimulates pancreatic beta cells to increase insulin secretion, thereby improving glycemic control. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily acts by decreasing hepatic glucose production and enhancing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization, contributing to improved insulin sensitivity.
