Esam-AT Tablet is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Amlodipine 2.5 mg and Atenolol 50 mg, indicated for the management of hypertension and angina pectoris. Amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, acts by inhibiting calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, resulting in vasodilation and decreased peripheral vascular resistance, thereby lowering blood pressure. Atenolol, a selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker, reduces heart rate, myocardial contractility, and cardiac output, contributing to blood pressure reduction and angina symptom control. The synergistic effect of these agents provides effective blood pressure control and reduces the frequency of angina attacks. Esam-AT Tablet is typically prescribed when monotherapy is insufficient to achieve target blood pressure levels or when dual action on vascular resistance and cardiac workload is desired.
