Equirex Tablet is a combination pharmaceutical formulation containing Chlordiazepoxide 5 mg and Clidinium 2.5 mg, indicated for the management of gastrointestinal disorders associated with anxiety and spasticity. Chlordiazepoxide, a benzodiazepine derivative, exerts anxiolytic, sedative, and muscle-relaxant effects by enhancing the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) neurotransmitters in the central nervous system, thereby reducing anxiety and tension that may exacerbate gastrointestinal symptoms. Clidinium, an anticholinergic agent, acts by inhibiting muscarinic receptors, leading to decreased gastrointestinal motility and secretion, which helps alleviate abdominal cramps, spasms, and discomfort. The synergistic action of these components makes Equirex effective in treating conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, peptic ulcer disease, and other functional bowel disorders where anxiety and gastrointestinal hyperactivity coexist.
